Summer Workshops 2008

We are still creating our registration form for 2008 workshops. If you are interested in having this form emailed or mailed to you, please contact us and we will send it to you as soon as possible.

Workshops are for students ages 6 and older . The Figure Drawing workshop is for students ages 8 and older. Because of the challenging curriculum, we are unable to make exceptions to this policy

Our summer workshops are one week long each, Monday through Friday. We try to keep the summer workshop curriculum different from our ongoing program so that both current students and new students are able to enjoy them! There is a morning workshop from 8:30-11:30am, and an afternoon workshop from 12:00-3:00pm. Students can also sign up for a full day and attend both workshops and bring a lunch.

Our ongoing program classes will continue throughout the summer, however, all classes Monday through Friday before 3:30 will be cancelled during workshops.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

ANIMATION:

Students are taught how to create their own figures and storyboards. By learning how to draw features such as eyes, ears, noses, etc., students will learn how to create characters in a storyboard of their making. Great fun and excitement will result from seeing their storyboards come alive as students ink and color their finished drawings! The final project will be learning to draw and paint an animated cell in the classical manner.

ANIME:

Students learn to draw the most popular Anime characters, like Dragonball, Yu-gi-oh, Evangelion, and Guddami Wing! They will learn to use pen & ink, colored inks, and markers to create their favorite colorful characters. They will also learn the form and structure of the human body and head to enhance their drawings. Students will learn to draw Anime cartoon characters, which will WOW their friends with new found skills and techniques. Students will not only go away from this workshop with impressive drawings, but they will be able to show others how they did it! What better summer company than to spend it with favorite Anime friends!

CLAY:

This is a hands on studio workshop where the student is guided from inception through a step-by-step process to the final finished piece. Students learn to create masks, animals, bar relief landscapes, and heads. The student sees the materials transformed while learning basic sculpting methods. Multiple materials and techniques are introduced to inspire interest and creativity. Students get their hands into the materials and let their imaginations flow! They will complete this workshop with wonderful, finished pieces that will bring lasting enjoyment for years!

FIGURE:

Students will discover the fundamentals of drawing the human form and the structure of the human head. Building their powers of observation and ability to capture 3-dimensional qualities of the figure, they will explore major drawing techniques using graphite, charcoal, pastels, and conte crayons. Students will be surprised and delighted at how easily they will learn to draw lifelike representations of the human body and head. They will find that something that looks difficult in the beginning is easily mastered with a step-by-step method. They will complete this workshop with a great sense of accomplishment and pride!

PALETTE:

Cartoon Paper Sculpture: Learn how to draw and make a favorite cartoon into a three-dimensional standing paper sculpture.

Portraiture: Learn the basic measuring techniques of drawing the human head. Then translate your new found knowledge into a self-portrait or family member.

Cartooning: Increase your cartooning skills by learning fundamental procedures in drawing your favorite characters.

Clay Sculpture: Learn to sculpt and paint a pinch pot. The student is taught how to make a hand-built, cup-shaped animal or cartoon sculpture.

Anime: Learn to draw popular Anime cartoons, like Dragonball.
